I received my PhD in Materials Science from the University of Southern California in 2013. My research work is focused on defect reduction and efficient processing routes in fiber reinforced composite parts. I am interested in innovative approaches to making next generation composites lighter, cheaper, and more sustainable.

Outreach

Teaching and inspiring the next generation of scientists and engineers is a responsibility I take seriously. The enthusiasm and curiosity of young scientists is infectious, and never fails to remind me why I chose this career path.

  CNSF Day:  In 2013, I attended the Coalition for National Science Funding (CNSF) Exhibition, as a delegate representing UC Riverside. In addition to presenting at the exhibition, I spent a day visiting members of congress to discuss the importance of funding scientific research.

 PS Science: The mission of the  PS science  program, part of the  Crossroads Community Outreach Foundation, is to bring science education to students in Title I elementary schools in Los Angeles. As a volunteer, I work with a classroom teacher to do hands-0n science activities during the school day.

  MESA at USC:  The Mathematics Science Engineering Achievement (MESA) program at USC is a fantastic organization. I am involved as a volunteer with MESA day, and have given multiple talks on my research and career path to middle school and high school groups.

  Math and Science Night:  Through the Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) program at USC, I became involved in Overland Elementary School's Math and Science Night, presenting workshops on scientific topics to students and their families.

  Science Fairs:  The science fair is an event I always look forward to. I have had the pleasure to judge at  the  California State Science Fair ,  the  Intel International Science and Engineering Fair , and the  LA County Science Fair .

 Mission Science: Also part of the MESA umbrella,  Mission Science  is a weekly program that brings hands-on science to local elementary school students. As an instructor for the program, I develop and implement lesson plans to teach science and engineering concepts to 3-5th graders.
